On October 5th, 2018 Supreme Court nominee, Brett Kavanaugh was confirmed by the senate and sworn into the supreme court as an Associate Justice. Being nominated by Trump earlier this year, he is surprisingly open to a pro-choice agenda. He also believes strongly in the first amendment and the second amendment.

Right now a group of about 5,000 mostly Honduran migrants are walking through southern Mexico on a journey to the United States. President Trump has announced that he will not let the migrants in and that “it is an attack on our country”.

South America

The country of Venezuela is projected to reach 1,000,000% inflation rates by the end of this Year, making their currency worth around 1.6 cents on the dollar. 2.3 million Venezuelans have left the country since the economic crisis hit.

In Nicaragua there is a civil war happening with the people rising up in revolt against the president, Daniel Ortega. He was part of the uprise to remove the ultra right wing dictator at the time. Since his re-election in 2006, he has been accused of eroding the fundamental backbone of democracy. Over 300 people have been killed since April of this year.


Since 2014, middle eastern countries have sprang into an all out warfare between Islamic rivals Sunni and Shia factions. The governments, as well as the countries, are backing them. This in turn has created a huge displaced population of muslims that have been migrating to the much safer europe in mass numbers. While the majority of countries are taking them in, countries like Poland and the United States have a very strict no migrant policy.

In major news for highschool students globally, the EU has collectively voted on a ‘Meme Ban’. Also known as article 13, it is effectively a law that makes copyrighted materials illegal and stops them from spreading. The responsibility to remove copyrighted material initially fell on the companies producing them. However, social media sites such as Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram are now being held accountable for the content.It is being shifted from the companies with the copyrighted materials job to the media companies job like Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram to remove them. This effectively creates a ban on most memes because the content of most memes is, of course, copyrighted materials from movies, tv shows, and books.
