Saunas: Hot and Healthy
As Winter finally begins to unfold in Tahoe, it brings along its beloved cold temperatures and snowy days. However, there are still many of us wishing for warmer weather. One way to remedy this feeling is through the use of a nice warm sauna. These rooms aren’t only pleasant and relaxing, they have also been proven to have health benefits as well! According to a study conducted in Finland, individuals who frequently used a sauna service lowered their risk of heart disease and high blood pressure, as well as their risk of early death. According to Rita Redberg, a cardiologist at UCSF Medical Center, “studies show an association between sauna use and some positive health outcomes such as lower blood pressure and possible relief from musculoskeletal pain and headaches”. This is due to the fact that the heat and relaxation allows your blood vessels to dilate more and allows more blood flow to the heart and throughout the entire body. In addition, Medical News Today states that, “those who used a sauna 2 to 3 times per week were 22 percent less likely to get dementia and 20 percent less likely to get Alzheimer's than than those who did not use a sauna.” So next time you want to escape the cold, consider visiting one of the saunas in the Tahoe area for some time to relax as well as time to improve your health.
